PAID PARENTAL LEAVE SCHEME

 

 

There has been a lot of press lately concerning the Paid Parental Scheme which was introduced on January 1, 2011. For many business owners the information is inconsistent and confusing.So what’s it all about? The Paid Parental Leave scheme is a government funded entitlement for working parents who are primary carers of children born or adopted from 1 January 2011 and is paid for a maximum of 18 weeks.

Parental Leave Pay is a taxable payment paid at the National Minimum Wage, currently $570 a week, before tax.

As an employer you can voluntarily sign up to administer payments, however, from the 1 July 2011 you will be responsible for providing parental leave payments to all eligible employees.

SUPPORT FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY RECENT FLOODING

 

As part of our Fortunity in the Community group, we are helping raise funds for those who have suffered damage and loss during the recent floods in Queensland, Victoria and parts of NSW. We will be holding a BBQ Breakfast on Friday 21st January between 8am & 10am in the Fortunity car park. Everyone is welcome to come along to show their support, with all funds raised, being donated to the QLD Premier’s Flood Relief Appeal.

On a side note, extensions have been made to December monthly activity statements for those businesses affected by the floods. The ATO recognises that some businesses will need more time to meet their taxation obligations. Deferred payment dates are already set up for some areas.
